He enters the Quincy High Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements in track and field in the early 1900's. Attending Quincy High with the First World War on the horizon, Williams cleared 5 feet, 8 1/2 inches in the high jump at the state track and field meet, tying him with George Allen of Clinton and Kenneth Shepard of Chicago Hyde Park. Williams returned to the state meet the following year and placed third in the same event. After graduating from Quincy High, Williams attended Stanford University where he excelled on the school's track team. Later, Williams served his country in World War I as a balloon aviator over the skies of France. A celebrated local aviator, Williams was known to amuse his friends by flying his plane under the Quincy bridge. He was chosen as one of the city's official greeters when celebrity Willy Post made a publicity stop in Quincy. In 1936, Williams moved to Hawaii where he founded the Williams Equipment Company a wholesale business dealing in sporting goods, commercial food equipment, and non-perishable goods. His business grew and in 1947 he opened branch offices in Manila and the Philippines. Robert Williams remained overseas until his death in November of 1987.
